The Harvey County Detention Center provides for the safe, secure incarceration of people admitted to the facility by local, state or federal law enforcement agencies, as well as pretrial and sentenced offenders from other cities, countries, the State of Kansas or federal government.
While fulfilling a key component in making communities safer by incarcerating those alleged or convicted of a crime, the Detention Center also strives to serve as a place of rehabilitation, so that when an individual is released from custody, they can be guided onto a more productive pathway moving forward. Medical and mental health care is also provided to inmates.
The current Detention Center was constructed in 1997.
The Detention Center is Prison Rape Elimination Act compliant. That policy can be found here.
Bonding
A suspect's charges and bond amount can be acquired by contacting Detention Center staff. The bond can be paid in cash, or through a bonding agent approved by the Ninth Judicial District of Kansas.
Visitation
We welcome visitors for inmates. However, there are several guidelines and requirements in place to ensure the safety of all involved.
Different areas of the Detention Center have specific days and times for visiting. You can view the visitation schedule here.
Before signing in for visitation, all purses and metal objects must be placed into lockers before entering through a metal detector. Please dress appropriately for the visit.
Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse visitation, such as potential conflict between the inmate and visitor, discipline of an inmate, etc.
Rehabilitation
The County offers several programs to benefit inmates. Those include: obtaining a high school degree, anger management, meditation, parenting, resume building, alcoholics anonymous, narcotics anonymous, spiritual programs, transition programs and mentoring programs.
There are opportunities to volunteer to support these services. More information can be found by contacting director Jason Reynolds.
Fingerprinting
The Detention Center can provide fingerprinting for a variety of needs, such as for teachers, nurses or as part of the concealed carry application process. Fingerprints cost $15 for up to three cards per person. Payment can be made out to the Harvey County Detention Center. Please note there is not cash available on hand to make change. Fingerprinting is not available on Thursdays.
