The Harvey County Commission unanimously voted at its Aug. 1 meeting to approve an extension on a commercial renewable energy construction moratorium in the county.

The Commission previously implemented a six-month moratorium at its Feb. 21 meeting.

The extension keeps the moratorium in place through Dec. 5, 2023. The extension was requested by the Harvey County Planning and Zoning Advisory Board, which is currently reviewing the County’s Unified Development Code related to commercial renewable energy. The advisory board also recommended the initial moratorium.

The moratorium does not act as a permanent ban on commercial renewable energy projects in Harvey County. The resolution temporarily halts potential construction until the date specified.

The county commission retains the authority to lift the moratorium earlier than the specified date.
