Healthy food for those in need with infrastructure provided by a Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant. #BCBSKSPathwaysLunch today was sandwiches and salad bar, dinner was tater tots casserole. Simple meals that people are grateful for. We fed over 60 people, not counting all who came to the free grocery store
Check out the newest additions to our Library of Things: fishing kits! Each kit includes a tackle box and two poles. A fishing license is not included. However, Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, happen to be the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks' annual free fishing days! The deadline is Monday at noon for individuals that would like to file to run for local office.The candidate filing deadline for local office is this coming Monday at noon. This year's election includes several county and township offices. Here's a list of who has filed for these offices as of today.

So we were out doing an area check and came across this crew having a field day near the road. We leaned out the window and yelled, “HAY. MOOOOOVE IT.” It was hilarious. Our comedic timing was perfect. Trust us. You had to be there. Anyway, turns out this crowd was tough as rawhide. The cattle were not in the moooood for our jokes, and now they’ve got beef with us.
Our deputy ranch hands found them wandering free on North River Park Road between Northwest 24th and 36th streets. We could use some help finding their home pasture. There are 10 in the herd, with various red, yellow, blue and brown ear tags.

PRESS RELEASE FROM KDOT:
Resurfacing will start soon on K-15 in Harvey County.
The Kansas Department of Transportation project – involving a chip seal – will be on K-15 from the south city limits of North Newton north to the Harvey/Marion county line. The length is 7.4 miles.
The work is expected to start around Monday, June 10, and be completed around Friday, June 21. During the work, traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car, and motorists should be prepared to stop and expect delays of up to 15 minutes. The map below shows the approximate project location, marked in red.
Circle C Paving and Construction, of Goddard, is the primary contractor for the $358,066 project. For updated information on this and other KDOT highway projects and road conditions across the state, go to www.kandrive.gov.

It's the last Monday in May, which means it's time to wrap up our #maxmondaysinmay posts. K-9 Max and Deputy Hinton have an outstanding support system, so let's introduce you to a few of Max's crime-fighting friends.
First, there's K-9 Ziva, who works with Lt. Thompson on the Newton Police Department. Ziva is a narcotics K-9 who does article and evidence searches. She's a 6-year-old Belgian Malinois from Hungary. She's worked with Thompson for four years. Then there's K-9 Kilo, partnered with Officer Sontag on the NPD. Kilo is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois from the Netherlands, and with Sontag for two years. Kilo is dual purpose, certified for narcotics detection and patrol work (like Max).
Ziva, Kilo and Max routinely train together, and help each other on calls as needed. Thompson, Sontag and Hinton also step up to take care of each other's dogs during vacations or other events. Max is happy to have the support, from his K-9 peers to everyone he gets to meet across the county, and most of all, his partner Deputy Hinton.
We appreciate you following along as we've gotten to share a little about K-9 Max's work and life for #maxmondaysinmay. Severe Weather Outlook Through 8 PM: Storms are developing across portions of southwest KS into the TX Panhandle. These storms will move east and northeast over the next few hours. As they approach south central KS, they will become increasingly capable of strong tornadoes and very large hail.
