Harvey County's three commissioners are dedicated to representing the entire county, but they are elected by the citizens in one of three defined districts. District 1 includes Walton, parts of Newton and much of eastern Harvey County. District 2 is comprised of North Newton and parts of Newton. District 3 covers western Harvey County, including Burrton, Halstead, Hesston and Sedgwick.
Each commission seat is held for four years. The District 1 term was elected in 2022. Districts 2 and 3 were elected in 2020.

Citizen advisory boards help guide important policy and decision-making endeavors for County departments and County-affiliated organizations. Applications for an advisory board can be obtained in the Administration Department at the Harvey County Courthouse, or by calling 316-284-6806.

Harvey County Economic Development Council
This board provides information and assistance to existing and prospective businesses while promoting economic development. The Council meets every fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. Three members are appointed by Harvey County to the board.
South Central Kansas Economic Development District
SCKEDD provides assistance and loans to businesses in a 14-county region in south-central Kansas. The board meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in Wichita. Harvey County appoints one representative and an alternate to this board.
Harvey County Parks Advisory Board
The board advises park planning and policy for Harvey County Camp Hawk, East Park and West Park. This 12-member board meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at facilities inside the various County-owned parks.
Harvey County Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals
This nine-member board advises or decides issues of zoning, special uses and variances in the unincorporated areas of Harvey County. The board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.
Newton City/County Aviation Commission
This is a joint commission with the City of Newton. The commission provides guidance on airport planning, airport improvement projects and other aviation issues. This commission meets quarterly.
Harvey County Council on Aging
Providing perspective on issues and needs of the older adult population, this eight-person board meets monthly on the second Thursday at 9 a.m.
Retired Senior Volunteer Advisory Board
This 15-member board assists and advises the County in providing meaningful activities for volunteers 55 and older in Harvey County. The board meets on the third Friday of each month at noon.
Harvey County Food & Farm Council
This council is made up of 18 individuals who seek to improve access to locally grown, healthy foods, strategize to ensure access to sustainable food, and provide discussion for local food-related stakeholders on community-wide efforts to improve food access. The Council holds meetings on the first Monday of each month at 4 p.m.
The Harvey County Commission is an elected three-person governing board that represents districts within the county. Commissioners serve four-year terms.
The Commission holds a weekly meeting on Tuesdays at 9 a.m., unless otherwise noted in the weekly agenda. Meetings are held in the community room on the basement level of the Harvey County Courthouse, located at 800 N. Main St. in Newton. Meetings are open to the public to attend in person, and can be viewed online through the Zoom meeting platform.
Commission meetings provide commissioners the opportunity to hear feedback from the public, vote on and direct policy decisions, determine the County government's annual budget and discuss long-range planning for the County.
