As of Jan. 1, 2020, recycling is not mandated by Harvey County. However, individual municipalities may have their own recycling policies. For more information on recycling in Halstead, Hesston, Newton, North Newton and Sedgwick, please click on the respective city.

Recycling is freely available to all county residents at the Harvey County Transfer Station. The following items can be recycled: 

Glass: Bottles and jars. All colors. No broken glass. Remove food residue from containers.

Plastic: Nos. 1 and 2 bottles and jugs. Remove food residue from containers.

Aluminum and Steel: Food and beverage containers. Remove food residue from containers. 

Newspapers, Magazines, Catalogs and Phone Books: Include all inserts. Must be clean and dry.

Corrugated Cardboard: No pizza boxes or waxy boxes. Tape and staples do not need to be removed. Must be clean and dry.

Pasteboard and Chipboard: Shoe, gift, prepackaged food and cereal boxes, beverage cartons and cardboard tubes.

Mixed Paper: Office and computer paper, slick ads and brochures, envelopes, junk mail, paper bags, greeting cards, gift wrap, shredded documents, paper egg cartons, books, file folders, cardstock, notepads and notebooks. No napkins, tissues, coffee filters, plates, cups or candy wrappers.
