A healthy lifestyle - such as regular exercise, eating well and avoiding addictive substances - has a wide array of benefits. Smart lifestyle decisions can decrease disease risk, benefit muscles and bones, improve mood and can lead to a longer life, among several other advantages.

The Harvey County Health Department has many services and programs that can aid residents in pursuing strong, consistent health regimens.

Chronic Disease Risk Reduction

The Health Department's Chronic Disease Risk Reduction program supports developing and implementing plans to reduce health-risk behaviors and aiding individuals in reducing the risk of developing chronic diseases.

Chronic diseases cost Kansans billions in combined dollars each year. One significant key to benefiting health is reducing the prevalence of chronic disease risk factors.

Tobacco use is a core focus area for CDRR. Local CDRR efforts center on addressing tobacco use among youth, reducing secondhand smoke exposure, promoting tobacco dependence treatment opportunities and refocusing on community activity and nutrition.

CDRR is supported through funding from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Healthy Harvey Coalition

The Healthy Harvey Coalition brings together members of the community as they seek to identify opportunities to improve the health, safety and success of Harvey County residents.

Among its focus areas, the Coalition pursues healthy eating options, promoting physical activity and tobacco cessation efforts.

The Coalition holds regular meetings on the first Wednesday of every other month at noon at the Harvey County Health Department. The public is welcome to attend any meeting.

Harvey County Food & Farm Council

The Harvey County Food & Farm Council strives to increase access to local healthy food and nourish food systems and options in the community.

The Food & Farm Council meets on the first Monday of each month at 4 p.m. at the Harvey County Health Department. The public is welcome to attend.
