In 2008, Harvey County purchased a 76-acre tract of land just off I-135 at the corner of Kansas Avenue and Southwest 36th Street across from the Chisholm Trail Shopping Center and Outlet Mall. The land was purchased in order to move the fairgrounds from the present site at First Street and Grandview Avenue in Newton to the new site. The site was selected because of its proximity to the Interstate Interchange between Newton and Wichita. It is proposed to build a facility for year-round use, not just during the weeklong Harvey County Fair in August. The new site near the Interstate will greatly facilitate year-round activities.
Possible uses for the new site include but are not limited to:
Carnival Area | Harvey County Fair |
Concession & Eating Areas | Concerts |
Demolition Derby Track | Church Events |
Exhibition Hall | Educational Classes |
Horse Arena | R.V. Shows |
Newton Saddle Club Arena | Election Caucus |
